Tree Service on Kent Island, MD

Kent Island covers Stevensville, Chester and Romancoke, plus waterfront neighborhoods like Kentmorr, Bay City, Cloverfields, Matapeake and Love Point. Our yard in Queenstown is about 13 miles east on US 50, so our crews reach the island by crossing the Kent Narrows bridge. We have more than 30 years in the tree business, and island jobs often mean tall pines next to houses, wet yards and shoreline buffers. Every job is led by a Maryland Licensed Tree Expert (LTE# 1929), and we take emergency calls 24/7.

Let us do the work. Our expert team will arrive on time at your Kent Island, Maryland, home or business and will quickly, safely, and effectively remove the specified tree(s).

After we’ve finished removing the trees/branches, etc., we will thoroughly clean the work area and remove all debris, leaving your property neat and tidy.

Bayfront Lots and the 100-Foot Shoreline Buffer

Kent Island is ringed by shoreline, so a large share of island homes sit inside the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area. Bayfront lots in Matapeake and Kentmorr, creekside yards in Chester and Stevensville, and homes near the water in Romancoke often have trees inside the 100-foot buffer, where the strictest rules apply.

Kent Island is unincorporated, so Queen Anne’s County Planning and Zoning handles tree permits here. A tree in the Critical Area needs a permit and an inspection before it comes down, even if it is already dead. Replacement trees must be Maryland natives, container-grown and 4 to 6 feet tall, planted within 45 days. Work in the buffer also needs a Buffer Management Plan.

We help with the paperwork side. As a licensed tree expert, we can document why a tree needs to come down, show where it stands and where the replacements will go, and schedule the job once the permit is issued. Pruning a healthy tree is allowed without a permit, so a hazard limb can often be handled without removing the whole tree.

Kent Island Storms and Round-the-Clock Tree Cleanup

On July 24, 2017, a waterspout came ashore at Bay City and tracked about two miles into Stevensville as an EF2 tornado, with winds near 125 mph. It tore the upper floors off townhomes, brought down trees and power lines, and left thousands of homes in the county without power. In 2003, Hurricane Isabel pushed a record surge into Kent Narrows. If a pine or oak lands on your roof, deck, fence or car, call 410-827-5198 day or night. We respond 24/7.

Common tree problems on Kent Island:

Tall pines beside the house. Loblolly pines grow tall and narrow on island lots, often just a few feet from the house. They catch the full force of wind off the Bay, so a leaning or thinning pine near a roof is worth checking before storm season.

Wet yards on the south end. High groundwater and slow-draining soils on southern Kent Island, around Romancoke and Kent Island Estates, keep roots shallow. When the ground is soaked, a big tree can tip over roots and all.

Phragmites on the shoreline. Tall phragmites reeds crowd marsh edges and block water views on many island lots. Our Marsh Master service cuts and controls phragmite stands on shorelines, ponds and wetlands.

Overgrown evergreen screens. Fast-growing evergreens planted for privacy along property lines in island subdivisions can outgrow their space and lean toward houses and driveways. We trim them back or remove them and grind the stumps.

On Kent Island our crews handle tree removal, trimming and pruning, stump grinding and storm damage cleanup. For waterfront lots we offer Marsh Master phragmite control, and we also sell seasoned firewood. We are permitted to move and sell wood under Maryland rules. Want a price? Ask for a free estimate.

Kent Island Tree Service FAQ

Is Chester the same as Chestertown?
No. Chester is on Kent Island, between Stevensville and Kent Narrows, with the ZIP code 21619. Chestertown is a separate town across the Chester River in Kent County. We serve both, but this page covers Chester on the island.

Does a dead tree near the water still need a permit?
Usually yes, if it is within 1,000 feet of tidal water. Queen Anne’s County requires a permit and inspection even for dead or dying trees in the Critical Area. A tree that is an immediate threat can come down sooner with prior approval from Planning and Zoning.

How far is Kent Island from your yard?
Our yard is just off US 50 in Queenstown, about 13 miles from Stevensville. Our crews cross Kent Narrows to reach the island and work everywhere on it, from Love Point at the north tip to Romancoke at the south end.

Can you clear phragmites along my shoreline?
Yes. Our Marsh Master service controls phragmites on shorelines, ponds and wetlands. On Kent Island that ground is almost always in the Critical Area, and the county asks for prior Planning and Zoning approval for invasive plant control, so we sort that out before work starts.
