After we’ve finished removing the trees/branches, etc., we will thoroughly clean the work area and remove all debris, leaving your property neat and tidy.
Historic Town Lots and Waterfront Buffers
St. Michaels fits old homes onto small lots, and many backyards run down to the Miles River or San Domingo Creek. Big trees here often stand a few feet from a porch, a fence or a neighbor’s roof, so removals are usually taken down in sections instead of felled in one piece.
The town has its own code, and much of St. Michaels and the land around it lies in the Critical Area. Trees in the shoreline buffer generally can’t come down without an approved plan and replacement planting, even when they are dead. Light pruning that keeps most of the canopy is usually simpler. We check the town or county rules for your lot first.
Out on the Bay Hundred, in McDaniel, Claiborne, Wittman, Bozman and Neavitt, and in communities like Martingham, nearly every property touches the water. Most of that is Talbot County Critical Area work, and the trees are often big loblolly pines and oaks standing near docks and bulkheads. We plan the removal and the replanting together so approval goes smoothly.

Bay Storms and Fallen Trees in St. Michaels
St. Michaels faces open water on more than one side, and storms push wind and tide right into town. During Hurricane Isabel in 2003, waves washed over the grounds of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum on the harbor. In July 2023, a storm with 83 mph gusts snapped trees on Tilghman Island just down MD 33, and in July 2026 two tornadoes touched down in Talbot County. When a tree falls on your home, car or driveway, call 410-827-5198 at any hour. Our crews respond 24/7.

Common tree problems in St. Michaels:
Trees crowding old homes. Many St. Michaels trees were planted long before today’s additions, sheds and fences. Limbs over roofs and trunks pressed against foundations call for careful pruning or a piece-by-piece removal to avoid damage.
Salt spray on the necks. On Bozman, Neavitt and Claiborne properties, wind off the Bay carries salt onto trees all year. Exposed trees thin out and die back on the water side, and the weakened limbs break in storms.
Leaning trees on eroding banks. Where shorelines wear away, roots lose support and trees lean toward the water. A tree hanging over the bank can pull part of the shoreline down with it when it falls, so planning the removal matters.
Phragmites along the shore. Tall phragmites reeds take over marsh edges and block water views on many Bay Hundred properties. Our Marsh Master machine cuts and clears them on soft ground, and the work fits well alongside buffer tree work.
St. Michaels and Bay Hundred homeowners count on us for tree removal on tight lots, trimming and pruning near the water, stump grinding and around-the-clock storm damage cleanup. For reed-choked shorelines there is Marsh Master phragmite control, and for the fireplace we offer seasoned firewood. We are permitted to move and sell wood under Maryland rules. St. Michaels Tree Service FAQ
Who sets the tree rules inside St. Michaels?
St. Michaels is an incorporated town with its own code, so town rules apply inside town limits, and Critical Area rules apply near the water. Outside town, on the Bay Hundred, Talbot County handles approvals. We find out which applies to your lot before work begins.
Can you remove a tree on a small, tight lot in town?
Yes. When a tree is boxed in by houses, fences and gardens, we take it down in pieces instead of dropping it whole. We plan where each section goes so your home, and your neighbor’s, stays protected.
Do you serve Bozman, Neavitt and Claiborne?
Yes. We work all over the Bay Hundred, including Bozman, Neavitt, McDaniel, Claiborne, Wittman and Sherwood, plus Royal Oak and Newcomb closer to Easton. Those waterfront properties usually fall under county Critical Area rules, and we plan removals and replanting to match.
Can you clear trees to open up my water view?
Clearing for a view is limited in the shoreline buffer, and removing healthy buffer trees is generally not allowed. Under state guidance, careful pruning that keeps most of the canopy is often the better route. We can look at your trees and explain what is realistic before any cutting.
